淡座公演の翌日に発ち、バーゼルへ。the second edition of Construct-Radiate international composition competitionの受賞者として委嘱を受け作曲した 、9人の奏者のための《incense, efflorescence》がバーゼルベースのアンサンブル neuverBand と Mike Svoboda氏の指揮によって初演され、その1週間後にはチューリッヒで再演があり、立ち会いました。

I flew from Tokyo on the next day of our Awai Za concert and I'd been in Basel for several days. Commissioned as the winner of the second edition of Construct-Radiate international composition competition by Basel based ensemble neuverBand, my new piece "incense, efflorescence" for nine musicians was premiered by Maestro Mike Svoboda and them at neuverBand - Construct-Radiate Ⅱ!! I was so happy to see they were really trying to know my music and to represent what I wanted! After one week from the world premiere in Basel, they performed again it in Zurich. Thank you very much for their much more greater performance there!!

Here's the program note about "incense, efflorescence":
This piece is based on thinking about the Japanese word “匂う (niou).” The term mostly means “smell” in modern Japanese, but originally, it also meant “to turn red.” It was used in the situations where it portrays beautiful scenes in Japanese old literature, such as flowers look like shining in the sunlight, or leaves begin to turn their colors in fall. I became interested in the way in which one word can have both an olfactory and a visual sense. I wondered if I could add acoustic meaning to the word, in other words, if I can hear “smell”, or if I can allude to subtle phenomena like smells, that are coming out, flowing, becoming denser and deeper, and disappearing.
